Spring has quickly sprung upon us, and I know I, for one, am fully enjoying this warm and beautiful weather. It is so nice to feel spirits improve with the changing of seasons. People are friendlier. Work is less burdensome. That yard work and spring-cleaning you keep putting off finally gets finished. And taking the dog for a walk is not quite the eskimo-dressed, chill-to-the-bone dash around the block that you so detested two weeks ago. That improved spirit increases your energy, too. Suddenly, errands you have to run, work you have to get done, and phone calls you need to return are less stressful and far easier to tackle. Improvement becomes…self-evident.
When I read the cover story of Style Weekly a couple days ago, I felt that same sense of improvement from the brand new VCU Children’s Pavilion being constructed just around the corner.
This $168 million facility, planned to open its doors in the summer of 2015, will be the largest, most advanced of its kind in the region. It will have 72 exam rooms, two operating rooms and procedure rooms for surgeries, diagnostic, imaging, and lab services, as well as a 600-space parking garage.
VCU’s Anne Buckley quoted CEO John Duval in her article on the new pavilion, and I believe what he said should be noted. “…At the end of the day, it’s all about the patient. And when your patient population includes some of the smallest and most vulnerable among us, it’s not only about the patient, but about the family as well…At Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, children and their families drive everything we do.”
Duval’s words on the growth of VCU, and its mission behind doing so, are significant. This state-of-the-art addition will unify and address the community’s medical needs. Likewise, at Smith Strong PLC there is a mission behind our work: to care for our client. With a trifecta team of attorney, paralegal and client services specialist steadily working on every case, your needs are not only heard, they are addressed.
