Brian Fraser is an experienced attorney serving clients across Central Virginia in family law, estate and fiduciary litigation, guardianship and conservatorship matters, and civil litigation. With nearly two decades of legal experience, Brian brings a strategic, thoughtful, and client-centered approach to every case he handles.

Before joining Smith Strong, Brian served in senior legal leadership roles in-house for large international nonprofits and governmental organizations, including the City of Richmond. In these roles, he advised executive leadership, managed complex litigation, handled employment and compliance matters, negotiated high-value contracts, and oversaw legal operations spanning multiple states and foreign countries. His work required navigating sensitive disputes, high-value negotiations, and multifaceted regulatory environments—experience that now directly benefits his litigation clients.

Earlier in his career, Brian served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, where he tried numerous bench and jury trials and authored appellate briefs for Virginia’s appellate courts. This courtroom experience provides him with a strong foundation in advocacy, trial strategy, and evidence-based case presentation.

Brian’s practice now focuses on guiding individuals and families thoughtfully through some of life’s most challenging legal matters, including divorce, child custody and support, contested estates and trusts, and guardianship proceedings. He is known for his clear communication, careful preparation, and commitment to achieving practical, lasting solutions for his clients.

Brian earned his Juris Doctor from Liberty University School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Liberty University, where he served as Student Body President and as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in the 24th Judicial Circuit of Virginia. He lives in Mechanicsville with his wife and their four sons. Outside of his legal practice, Brian is deeply committed to his family and community. He coaches youth sports and has worked with several nonprofit organizations, including Portsmouth Youth Foundation, Fostering Acadia, P23 Ministries, and Intersect. He currently serves as President of the RVA Baseball Foundation.
